How lean muscle mass can help prevent heart disease

An unfortunate reality of aging is that, beginning in our mid-30’s, our muscle mass begins to gradually decrease. In a new study, researchers investigated whether more muscle mass may be associated with better long-term health for men without heart disease. The study found that men with the most muscle were 81% less likely to develop heart disease than the least muscular. They also had lower rates of heart disease risk factors, such as high blood pressure, diabetes and obesity.

In order to preserve lean muscle mass as we get older, the researchers suggested getting regular physical activity, including resistance training, and eating a diet rich in protein and other nutrients. Learn more at USNews.
