Let’s Build Your Plan for Heart-Healthy Living
According to the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and CardioSmart, the best things you can do to protect yourself from heart disease are maintaining a healthy weight, eating well, moving more and avoiding tobacco.[1]
As you figure out how to make these changes, try to set realistic goals that are doable with all that you have going on in your day-to-day life. Examples of common obstacles people face when trying to build heart-healthy habits are:
Not knowing where or how to begin
Cost
Not having enough time
Limited access to safe places to exercise or affordable healthy food options
Depression or anxiety[2]
If you’re facing some of these issues and are feeling stuck, remember that you don’t have to go it alone. Your physician is on your side and can help you find programs, tools and resources to support you. You may also benefit from seeing other experts, like a nutritionist, exercise therapist, mental health counselor or social worker.[2]
